Some of my favorite family sessions are the ones where we let go of the idea that everyone needs to be perfectly posed and simply give kids the space to be themselves.
That was exactly what made this family session so much fun.
Their little boy brought so much personality from beginning to end. He was funny, expressive, playful, and completely himself — which gave us so many sweet moments to photograph along the way.
As a family photographer in Columbus, GA, those are always the moments I want families to remember most. Not just what everyone looked like, but what this season of life actually felt like.

Little ones rarely want to stand still and smile at the camera for an entire family session — and they absolutely do not need to.
Instead, I love letting children move, play, laugh, and interact naturally with their parents.
During this session, we photographed everything from snuggles with mom and dad to playful moments that showed off his big personality. At one point, he was up on dad’s shoulders. In another moment, he was giving mom a high five.
And then there were the faces.
He made the sweetest and funniest little expressions throughout the session, and those ended up being some of my favorite images.
They are the kinds of photographs that instantly take you back to exactly who your child was at this age.

One of the biggest concerns I hear from parents before a family session is whether their children will cooperate.
The truth is, some of the most meaningful photographs happen when we stop worrying about perfect behavior.
Kids might want to run. They may be silly. They may climb onto dad’s shoulders or decide they would rather interact with mom than look directly at the camera.
That is all part of the experience.
My goal is to create a relaxed environment where your family can simply enjoy being together while I gently guide you when needed.
We will absolutely create those classic family portraits everyone loves, but we will also make room for movement, laughter, and all the in-between moments that make your family yours.

When you look back at your family photographs years from now, I want you to remember more than the outfits you wore or the location we chose.
I want you to remember the little expressions you had almost forgotten.
The way your child fit perfectly on dad’s shoulders.
The way they reached for mom.
The silly smile that made everyone laugh.
Children change so quickly, and family photography gives us a way to hold onto a tiny piece of who they are right now.
That is exactly what I loved about this family’s session.

If you have been waiting for the perfect time to update your family portraits, you do not have to wait for your children to reach a certain age or become better at sitting still.
This season is already worth documenting.
