Six months is one of those stages that feels like it arrives overnight.
Your tiny newborn suddenly has rolls, big smiles, favorite toys, and a personality that seems to grow a little more every day.
I first photographed this sweet girl as a newborn, so having her back in front of my camera for her six-month milestone was incredibly special.
Her family was getting ready to move out of the area, which made this session even more meaningful. Before they left, we planned a simple session focused completely on her and who she was at this exact stage.

There is so much personality that begins to emerge around six months.
Babies are more alert and interactive. They recognize familiar voices and faces. They smile more easily, reach for things they love, and often give us the sweetest little expressions.
She was such a happy, smiley girl throughout her session.
Because this was a simple milestone session, we did not need anything elaborate. The focus was completely on her — those little features, her expressions, and all of the changes that had happened since her newborn portraits.
That simplicity is one of my favorite things about milestone photography.

One of my favorite moments from her session involved a small Super Mario stuffed toy that had become one of her favorites.
Mom and dad knew they wanted at least one photograph with it.
It may seem like such a small detail now, but these are often the photographs that become more meaningful with time.
Favorite toys change. Babies grow out of the things they once carried everywhere. The little details that feel ordinary during everyday life can become the things we miss most later.
Including something your baby genuinely loves makes the photographs feel even more personal to this particular chapter.

One of the best parts of photographing families over time is getting to see how much their babies change between sessions.
At the newborn stage, everything is tiny and new.
By six months, we begin to see so much more personality.
And before you know it, that baby is standing, walking, and celebrating a first birthday.
Photographing those milestones allows you to create a visual story of your baby’s first year instead of realizing later just how quickly it all went.
For this family, this session was also a chance to document one more piece of their story before they moved away.
I am so thankful we were able to fit it in.

If your baby is approaching the six-month mark, you do not need a complicated setup to create meaningful photographs.
A simple milestone session can be the perfect way to document your baby’s growing personality, their smiles and expressions, tiny details that are already changing, favorite toys or comfort items, and the beautiful stage between newborn and one year.
