If the idea of taking a brand-new baby somewhere for photographs sounds slightly intimidating, you’re definitely not alone.
Newborn days are unpredictable. Someone always needs to eat. Someone may need a diaper change. And there is a very real possibility that the person running the entire show weighs less than ten pounds.
That is completely okay.
A newborn photography session isn’t about getting your baby to perform perfectly. It’s about slowing down and documenting your family exactly as you are in this tiny season.

One of the most important things to know before your newborn session is that we don’t need to rush.
If baby needs to eat, we stop. If baby needs to be changed, we stop. Or if they need a few extra minutes in your arms before they’re ready for anything else, that’s where they stay.
There is no prize for having the baby who sleeps the entire session. Awake babies are beautiful, too.

You aren’t expected to walk in knowing what to do with your hands, where to stand or how to hold your baby for the camera.
That’s my job.
I’ll gently guide you when guidance is needed, while still leaving room for the little interactions that happen naturally between you.
The way your baby curls against your chest. How their whole hand wraps around one of your fingers. The way an older sibling leans in just a little too close because they are completely fascinated.
Those are often the photographs that end up meaning the most.

Newborn sessions have breathing room built into them.
Feeding breaks, diaper changes, soothing and snuggles aren’t interruptions. They’re simply part of photographing a newborn.
Parents sometimes apologize when baby needs something, and I promise there is never anything to apologize for. Your baby is supposed to need you.

You may arrive after a night of very little sleep. Your toddler may decide they are absolutely not interested in our plans. Your baby may be wide awake when you were convinced they would sleep.
None of those things mean your session isn’t going well.
Beautiful family photographs don’t require perfect behavior. They are all about connection.

My goal as a Columbus, GA newborn photographer is to make this experience feel simple.
You’ve just added an entirely new person to your family. This isn’t the season for added pressure.
We’ll take our time, follow your baby’s cues and create photographs that help you remember just how tiny they were — and just how it felt to hold them close.
