There is something extra special about photographing a baby’s first birthday when I have had the privilege of documenting their story from the very beginning.
I first photographed this family for their maternity session.
Then I met their little boy again as a newborn.
And suddenly somehow, he was back in front of my camera for his one-year portraits.
His first birthday session felt like such a beautiful full-circle moment and the perfect way to celebrate just how much can change in one short year.

The first year is full of changes.
Your newborn becomes a smiling baby.
Then suddenly they are sitting, crawling, standing, clapping, waving, and showing you exactly who they are.
By the first birthday, so much of their personality is already shining through.
That is what I loved about this session.
He was absolutely adorable, with the sweetest little hair, bright blue eyes, and so many funny expressions.
He also kept giving us these precious little kissy faces — tiny smooches that made the session feel completely like him.
Those are the details parents think they will always remember. But little expressions change so quickly. Photographs let us keep them.

First birthday portraits do not have to involve an elaborate theme or complicated setup.
Sometimes, the sweetest way to document this milestone is simply to let your baby be the focus.
For this session, we used a couple of different outfits to create variety while still keeping the overall gallery timeless and cohesive.
The result was a collection that celebrated exactly who he was at one year old without distracting from the things his parents will want to remember most — his face, his expressions, his little features, and that personality that had grown so much since his newborn session.

Being invited back into a family’s story is one of the greatest privileges of being a photographer.
There is something incredibly meaningful about first photographing parents as they wait for their baby, then photographing that tiny newborn in their arms, and eventually watching that baby come back into the studio as a one-year-old.
Each session tells a different part of the story.
Maternity photographs preserve the anticipation. Newborn portraits document just how tiny they once were. Milestone sessions capture the personality that begins to appear during that first year. And one-year portraits bring everything full circle.

The first birthday can feel like a finish line and a beginning all at once.
You made it through those newborn nights. The endless bottles or feedings. The first smiles. The first laughs. The first teeth. The first time they sat up. The first time they pulled themselves to standing.
And somehow, your tiny baby is one.
A first birthday session creates a tangible reminder of that transition.
Years from now, you will be able to look back and remember those bright eyes, that little hair, the kissy faces, and all of the tiny details that made your baby completely unique.
